MONTHLY SONG CIRCLES!

What is a ‘song circle’?

A ‘song circle’ is a casual, supportive gathering of songwriters and/or musicians who take turns sharing original songs, works in progress in a round-robin format. It's less about performance and more about community, creative exchange, gaining feedback ideas and mutual encouragement.

What to Expect in a Song Circle:

Format:

  • Round-robin sharing – Participants take turns sharing an original song or song idea to the group. The host will offer some initial feedback and then others in the group will have an opportunity to respectfully offer some thoughts and feedback also.

Participation:

  • Play a song live (guitar, piano, etc.) or a pre-recorded track.

  • Listening is just as important as playing. It’s a big part of the experience.

  • You’re usually welcome to pass if you don’t feel like sharing that round.

  • People may offer brief feedback if the circle encourages it, but many keep it focused on listening unless invited otherwise.

Zoom-specific expectations:

  • One person plays at a time (Zoom isn’t built for group playing).

  • Everyone else is muted while someone is performing to avoid background noise and lag.

  • The host/moderator will keep time and facilitate turns.

Vibe & Community:

  • These song circles are welcoming, respectful, and low-pressure.

  • Song circles encourages creativity, not perfection.

  • Great for meeting other songwriters, building confidence, and hearing different styles.

COPYRIGHT OF YOUR SONG (AND WHAT YOU AGREE TO BY PARTICIPATING IN A SONG CIRCLE):

  • By participating in these events, you acknowledge that all songs shared remain the sole property of their respective writers. Any feedback, suggestions, or creative input offered during the circle is given in a spirit of support and collaboration, and does not constitute a claim of co-writing, authorship, or copyright ownership.

  • You also agree to not record, reproduce, or share other participants’ work without their express permission.

Tips if You’re Attending One:

  • Test your setup: Good internet, working mic, and quiet background.

  • Tune your instrument and check your audio settings (e.g. enable "original sound" in Zoom for music).

  • Bring a song you’re comfortable with, whether finished or in-progress
